Simple Provisional Evaluation of Observations of Regulus Grazing Occultation on 24th April 1999

Vorgestellt wird ein einfacher Vergleich der Beobachtungen
mit dem vorhergesagten Mondrandprofil zur Plausibilitätskontrolle und zur
Motivation der Beobachter zu weiteren Aktivitäten.
Der Wert der Meßergebnisse ist gut erkennbar; Detail-Korrekturen zum
vorhergesagten Profil können abgeleitet werden. Die Ergebnisse von 2
unabhängigen, mehr als 400 Kilometer voneinander entfernten Expeditionen
konnten näherungsweise kombiniert werden.
Summary
Simple comparison between prediction and observation and the visible
coherence between all observation results demonstrate the quality and value of
the reached results. So a good motivation to continue observation of such events
can be generated.
The results of all observers confirm each other very well even for two
independent expeditions in a distance of more than 400 kilometres. The results
correspond to the predicted profile basically, but several corrections of
profile data can be made.

The predicted graze path for Berlin is given in POTSDAM geodetic datum. The PULKOWO 1942 datum is used for the Valasske Mezirici prediction.
2. Sources for Observation Data:
German (Berlin) expedition:
Timing Data were reported directly to the author by each observer. Position data
were derived from automatic GPS-measurements (40 minutes ... 2.5 hours for each
observation site during or after observation day, by S.Andersson, W.Rothe) and
averaging via computer, estimated position error < |+/-30 m| , probably about
+/-15 m, geodetic Datum POTSDAM. The height above sea level was derived from a
topographic map, scale 1:100 000, error may be about +/- 5 m.
Czech (Valasske Mezirici) expedition:
All Data were reported to the author by Petr Zeleny, positions derived from a
topographic map, scale 1:50 000 are provisionally.
3. Evaluation:
The position of each observed event in a profile graphic similar to the profile prediction was calculated and displayed in comparison with the predicted profile.
